Annotation The article considers the practice of economic zoning of Siberia in 1920-s (case-study of the Lena-Baikal project). It analyzes the economic, national and foreign policy factors of integration between Trans-Baikal and Irkutsk provinces and the Buryat-Mongol Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic into the Lena-Baikal Region. We prove that the special geopolitical role assigned to the republic in Central Asia, allowed it to avoid inclusion into the projected area as a district and to preserve the status of national autonomy.
Key words economic regionalization, Lena-Baikal region, national autonomy, geopolitics
