| Annotation | The article analyzes the main paradoxes of Ukrainian national identity in the concept of P. Bitsilli based on the consideration of his article “The Problem of Russian-Ukrainian relations in the light of history”. The general logic of P. M. Bitsilli’ work is reconstructed, the key issues are analyzed here. By means of attraction of various historical data, their truthfulness and conceptual significance for the modern analysis of the given problems which was actualized as a result of political events of the last years is shown. The purpose of this article is to study the concept of P. Bitsilli proposed by him to understand Ukraine as a specific cultural and historical phenomenon, in the context of modern realities of the formation of its national-state identity. The following abstracts of P. Bitsilli are very important: 1) about the fallacy of the principle of artificial “constructing” of nations on the basis of only one of political expediency; 2) the destructiveness of building a political nation for culture and language that violate their natural development and create only an illusion, not a genuine culture and language; 3) on the decisive role of universal, not particularistic values in the natural formation of nations; 4) about the mercenary nature of the artificial “constructing” of nations, always with the aim of advancement of mediocrity and the suppression of the higher cultural traditions through artificial independence. |
