Annotation The aim of this article is to reveal archival materials on history of formation of academic science in Buryatia stored in the archival Fund of its first scientific institution founded in 1922 and to analyze them as archival source documents on the history of the Buryat-Mongolian scientific Committee. Buruchkom was the direct forerunner and founder of the Institute of Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan studies of the Siberian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and almost of all contemporary academic, educational and cultural institutions of the Buryat Republic. While identifying and analyzing the representativeness of the documents, we used the basic methods of working with historical sources, which are a complex of documents differing in terms of safety, content and chronology, which has been attributed, classified and analyzed. The main documents on the research topic are stored in the collection of Buruchkom (Buryat scientific committee), in which the documents for the period of its existence (1922–1929) have been deposited since the formation of the Buryat-Mongolian Autonomous Republic. They vividly reflect the social and political life of the region. They are valuable sources on the history of formation of Buryat statehood and their importance becomes more actual and significant taking into consideration the upcoming 95th anniversary of the Republic of Buryatia in 2018.
