Annotation The transformation of Iraq in the early XXth centrury into a zone of conflict and war, as well as the persecution of the Turkmans and the pressure exerted on them prevented researches in this field. In recent years, the history and origin of the Iraqi Turkmans, their folklore and culture, and the generally modern situation of the Iraqi Turkmans has been the subject of many studies in both Iraq, Azerbaijan and Turkey. Studying the history of the formation of the Turkman literature formed in Iraq it becomes clear that it developed over many centuries and gave a rich heritage to the world literature. In general, the development of Iraqi‒ Turkman literature is studied in two ways: 1) oral folk literature; 2) written literature. Speaking about the Iraqi-Turkman literature, first we understand rich oral folklore literature ‒ folklore. The written literature of the Turkmans begins from the XIV–XVI centuries. Apparently, it covers a huge historical period, and therefore is studied in two stages: 1) joint literature (from the very beginning to the beginning of the XXth century); 2) modern literature (from the beginning of the XXth century to the present day). Basically, the Iraqi-Turkman literature has been developing in the direction of poetry. The Turkman poets tried their pen both in verse-length, based on the longitude of syllables – arud and syllabic metre, and in a free verse that divided the literary society into the two “fronts”. However, prose was much behind. With the formation of the typography, certain steps were made in the field of the story and the novel, and the first samples appeared.
