| Annotation | In the article a series of booklets written in old Mongolian script entitled as “The Library of a Buryat woman” is being introduced for the first time to the wide academic turnover. Based on their content analysis specific features of mass political literature prepared for the Buryat women of the early 20th century are described. The main goal of this literature was the involvement of women into social and industrial relations. The article describes the features of a woman’s life at the initial stage of the development of a socialist society. In the conditions of revolutionary changes, women received possibilities to become economically active and full participants of social relations, to get involved in the state-management, socio-economic and political transformations. In the issues of these series described are the legal aspects of the new position of the Buryat women, with special attention given to the rights and interests of pregnant women and mothers, marriage and divorce, property rights of women. Broad activities were carried out among the women for engaging them into the work of delegate meetings, production, cooperatives and the party. The author concludes that this series was not only of agitation and propaganda character, but it was of educational character. It gave new knowledge in the field of culture, education, medicine, law, encouraged women to more active actions in the fight against illiteracy. The article may be useful for a wide range of readers interested in the study of Buryat history, political campaigns in the first quarter of the 20th century and gender studies. |
