It determines the similarities and differences of the methodologies and analyzes the works of a number of authors who have made a decisive contribution to the study and understanding of the essence of metaphoristics. The article shows that metaphorical constructions are used in different languages and cultural phenomena. Poetic texts are especially rich in metaphors. The article analyzes Russian and Chinese poetic texts: identifies the metaphors that are sociocultural information codes, which represent the specific features of the researched cultural and historical period. Sociocodes are understood as fundamental and significant realities of culture. Every nation has a certain amount of knowledge. Some knowledge is encoded in cultural codes. Sociocodes are found in various sociocultural phenomena, including texts, which, in turn, are rich in metaphorical constructions. To analyze knowledge, features of cultural customs and traditions, Russia’s and China’s pictures of the world at the beginning of the 20th century the authors use the decoding of poetic metaphorical constructions in the texts of Russian and Chinese poets. It is aimed at understanding the semantic content of poetic metaphors and cultural information hidden behind them.
