Annotation Gratitude as an indicator of the individual’s development is a sociocultural derivative of the society in which man is born and lives. The article deals with the phenomenon of personal and social “gratitude”, why and when people are grateful and how “gratitude” as a phenomenon affects social empathy, manners and values, and selfidentity of man. The article describes religious-philosophical and socio-psychological foundations of gratitude as a sociocultural phenomenon and shows the transformation of gratitude in the minds of various generations of our contemporaries. Gratitude as an emotional, cognitive and behavioral process provides a framework that is acceptable at any given moment of human life and society. In addition, it acts as a barometer of the spiritual and moral development of society. The aim of the article is to analyze the philosophy of gratitude in modern society. Gratitude as a sociophilosophical phenomenon is a form of empathy manifestation and can serve as a measure of social changes in a society of change. The author shows changes in the forms and motives of gratitude in the personal space of human and social environment as a whole as well as the “normality” criteria in social relations from the perspective of social transformation of social institutions and processes.
