Annotation The article is devoted to a special group of ancient dwelling complexes in Zabaikalye discovered on the gravel surface of the fluvial terraces of the Chikoi and Menza rivers. Dwellings in such peculiar stratigraphic conditions were identified thanks to long-term and large-scale investigations of multilayer settlements in the South-East of Zabaikalye. The structure of dwellings is mostly represented by an outer cobble lining (of a round or oval shape) and a hearth in the centre. The remains of human activity, such as remains of stone and bone and faunal remains, can be found around the hearth. The excavations were carried out by the Chikoi archaeological ZabSHPU team headed by M. V. Konstantinov, A. V. Konstantinov, L. V. Syomina (Yekimova) and by the author of the article. The bibliography contains the data obtained during the study of Ust-Menza-1, Studenoye-1 and Studenoye-2 settlements.
