Annotation The article is devoted to the establishment of the cooperative movement on the eve of World War I and its development during the war. Particular attention is paid to consumer cooperation, which helped farmers to participate in trade, and to fill the market with accessible for the public goods, and wholesale trade. The article describes the activities of credit unions, to solve financial problems. A huge role in the cooperative movement expansion and the establishment of joint unions was played by a consumer society ˝Economia˝. The article describes the activities of cooperation during World War I, which greatly affected the supply of essential commodities. Cooperative association ˝Economia˝ took a number of measures to retain the price and purchase goods. The association contributed to the establishment of ‘Zakupsbyt’, which helped not only to fill the market, but also to organize the supply of the army.
