Annotation Social sciences as the ones studying society cannot ignore the problem of determining their basic concept – the concept of “society”. The article shows that the definition of society in social sciences is drawn towards one of the two principles – the “methodological individualism” and “sociological realism”. The author believes that both principles are not sufficient to adequately reflect the nature of society. This problem can be solved only on the basis of the historicism principle.
Key words society, social sciences, “methodological individualism”, “sociological realism”, historical process
