Annotation	The article contains the analysis of general data on Transbaikal metallurgy development by materials of the 18th century academic expedition. Special attention is paid to silver melting (Argun silver plants) and steel-making production in Selenginsky and Nerchinsky voivodeships. Customary practical technological process of ore extraction and processing, labour organization and conditions are considered in the article. Among the explorers the following scientists are detached: D. Messershmidt, G. Miller, I. Gmelin, P. Pallas.
