Annotation The paper is devoted to the history of Mongolian studies in the universities of Russia in the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th centuries, which contains some interesting materials about universities of Russia, where Mongolian studies were the main direction of Oriental studies. Oriental Institute in Vladivistok is a significant period in the history of Oriental studies, where much attention was paid to the study of Mongolia. Researches on economic and political development of Mongolia were carried out under supervision of a famous scientist A. M. Pozdneev. Mongolian studies researches started in Kazan University and were successfully carried on in Petersburg, Vladivostok and Irkutsk Universities.
