Annotation	The article discusses cultural reasons in interpreting a literary text. The author offers a holistic approach to identifying spiritual meaning in a text. The author reviews polemical points of view on interpreting a text of Russian literature. It is proved that the hierarchy of meanings in a literary text depends on the priority of values relevant to the epoch when a text was written and on the author’s or critic’s worldview when he is interpreting the spiritual message of a literary work.
