Annotation	The article is a methodological overview of works on transborder studies. The author defines the main objects, problems and perspectives of culturological studies of the phenomenon. Their role in overcoming frequent stereotypes and clichés is underlined. The article touches upon the problems of asymmetry in Chinese and Russian relations in the transborder area as well as the problems of relations between the region and the federal centre.
