Annotation The article discusses the most important course of Buddhist monastic education in Buryatia (the 19th – beginning of the 20th century) – Uma (Madhyamaka). Book analysis was done on the DB of “Choira” collection of Buddhist scholastic literature of the Center of Oriental manuscripts and xylographs (IMBT SB RAS) and traditional bibliographic catalogues “garchaks” of the largest Buddhist centers of Buryatia. Our investigation has demonstrated that the study of this scholastic subject in the Buryat monasteries (the 19th – beginning of the 20th centuries) has been provided by a varied Tibetan Buddhist literature from fundamental works of Indian classics (Nagarjuna, Buddhapalita, Chandrakirti, Shantideva, Dzhnyanagarbha, Shantarakshita) and by popular textbooks of the famous scholars of Tibet, Mongolia and Buryatia. It is also necessary to emphasize that if we compare this section (Madhyamika) of Tibetan scholastic literature “Choira” with other sections (Pramana, Prajna-Paramita, Vinaya, Abhidharma) we find that the largest number of works of Indian authors are found in this section. An important revealed result of our research is the historical fact that the books of the Buryat monastic printing houses (Aga, Tsugol, Egita, Ana monasteries of Buryatia and Transbaikal region) provided for the local Buddhist education in this scholastic subject.
