The article analyses semantic-cognitive characteristics of verbs with the prefix unter– in Yiddish.
The situation described by a prefixal verb is frequently conceptualized differently in comparison
with the etymological space semantics of the prefix unter-. The situations “beside the observer”,
“approaching the observer” and “behind the observer” are conceptualized as “below the level of the
observer”. These situations can be represented as a set of participants and circumstances which in
proposition have different ranks. |
