Annotation The article is devoted to the topical journalistic problem of studying the communication strategies of modern media. The purpose of the article is to conduct a theoretical analysis of various approaches to study of communication strategies of the media with the particular interest in communicative strategies in intercultural media discourse. There is a strong interest of both Russian and foreign researchers in ethnic journalism. The article gives a historical insight into the strengthening of ethnic dominant in different countries of the world, considers different theoretical approaches to determining the role of the media in intercultural communication and identifies the risks in covering inter-ethnic relations in the media. The results of the newest research of ethno-cultural discourse in the Russian and European press are analyzed. On the basis of the methods of the included observation and content analysis of the press, it is concluded that multiculturalism is becoming a real challenge for modern European countries experiencing a multiple increase in migration activity, a rapid change in the ethno-cultural situation in society, the growth of communicative aggression in the media. In the media discourse the “we-they” opposition becomes especially noticeable, revealing the heterogeneity of society, highlighting the manifestations of ethnic intolerance. As for the Russian media, the issues of information impact on the process of harmonization of interethnic relations are in the focus of attention of both the scientific expert community and government agencies. The article draws attention to the system of modern priorities and directions in the field of information policy, as well as to the role of the press in intercultural communication.
