Annotation | Monograph of N. N. Konstantinova is dedicated to several decades of the life of one of the oldest museums in Siberia ‒ the Transbaikal Regional Museum of Local Lore in Chita. The author consequentially examines the history of the formation and development of the museum from its inception until the early 1980s. Supplementing existing publications, the author made a successful attempt at an integrated approach to considering the formation and development of the Museum in the context of the all-Russian and regional socio-political and socio-cultural situation at various stages of historical development. This made it possible to clearly reveal the main trends in the evolution of the museum within the framework of the chronological framework chosen by the author (and, in some cases, beyond this framework). It is important that it was possible to show the objective patterns that determine the interaction of museum work with other phenomena of public life in the region. The author of the monograph compiled impressive empirical material from archival documents and published written sources, periodicals, informants’ stories, and personal observations. The monograph is equipped with numerous photographs illustrating the variety of collections and exhibits of the museum, representing its managers and employees. The basis of the monograph is the materials of exhibitions prepared by N. N. Konstantinova. This, perhaps, allowed the author to make the narrative interesting, and the image of the museum and museum workers bright and original in the «mirror of the times». |
