Annotation The monograph presents the results of the world’s first study of the possibilities of using zoning methods to handle large volumes of constantly updated empirical geodata. The main types of such data, the requirements for the methodical apparatus, the vectors for the development of methodology, post-Soviet zoning trends and the scope of zoning schemes are presented. Algorithms of the conceptual model, selection of informative features, creation of a system of methods, identification of homogeneous, nodal and evolutionary regions, assessment of the quality of territory differentiation, verification and interpretation of the results are presented. V. I. Blanutsa’s work is simply a study of the problems of socio-economic regionalization in the era of big data, the work raises the question of the readiness of all geography, as a worldview science, to such a phenomenon of the information society as a multiple increase in the volume of information. At that, the author of the monograph not only warns the geographical community, he offers concrete measures regarding the development of methods of socio-economic regionalization, outlines the ways of development of the theory and practice of regionalization. The author cares about the problem of geography’s readiness for new challenges of the information society. The geographic scientific community is not yet aware of the coming change of epochs. Viktor Blanutsa’s monograph is intended for specialists in the field of economic zoning, students and graduate students who are interested in the prospects for the development of geography and are able to understand the trends in the development of science in the context of the information society.
