Annotation The symmetry and pair conception in the Chinese consciousness is an integral part of the ideal images in architectural composition of speech works in which the pair-inscriptions are their realization. Pair-inscriptions, having their bright national specification are absolutely a unique kind of language practice. Their history of origin and formation is deep and has various aspects, they are closely connected with the customs and traditions of ancient Chinese people. As to their functions in the historical context, we can name, at least, two reasons of their origin and popularization: the archaic-mythological images, which explain the appearance and character of the content and specific natural-philosophic disposition of the presented pair-inscriptions. This disposition also explains the structural peculiarity of the content. Taking into consideration all these reasons, it is rightful to define five stages of the development of pair-inscriptions connected with the actualization of such cultural facts as the home charms while entering the house, peach charms and the New Year pair-inscriptions.
Key words dynasty approach, pair-inscriptions, in-yang conception, axiomatic basis, archetypic plot
