Annotation | The article raises the issue of Paleolithic dwellings which are one of the most important achievements of humankind and serve as a kind of indication of development of “Paleolithic civilization”. The given topic brings up a lot of argument. Implements obtained at Transbaikalian sites can help resolve the long-existing arguments. The search for Paleolithic sites and their study has been ongoing for many years. Paleolithic “archive of dwellings” of Transbaikalia is vast and has high quality features. Excellent examples of Paleolithic dwelling construction were obtained during the investigation of dwelling of different types (singe-hearth and multi-hearth) at multi-layer settlements Kosaya Shivera-1,2 (Transbaikalia, Krasniy Chikoi region). The article analyzes the location of the dwellings in settlement stratigraphic profile, gives grounds for the in situ location of the complexes, their age. The paper puts forward plausible proof for distinguishing of dwellings based on analyzing of preserved structural elements (hearths, implements, outer lining). The preserved state and distinctness of the identified dwellings is such that they can serve as a peculiar reference for identification of other dwellings at different sites. There also exist possibilities for their modeling and reconstructing. |
Key words | multi-layer settlements, river terraces, alluvial sediments, Paleolithic dwellings, single-hearth dwellings, multi-hearth dwellings, material implements |
