Annotation History of the the educational system in the Russian Empire continues to be in the area of the research for specialists in this field. Special attention is paid to the study of specific educational institutions, which role as educational and cultural centers was significant. Of course, one of these institutions was Troitskosavsk district school, one of the first and the few that were open in the Urals. Well-known representatives of the education worked there, its leavers became well-known scientists, cultural workers, ethnographers and its pride. Nikolai Popov refers to those persons; there is little information about him. His name is rarely mentioned in the works of scientists. In addition to teaching, he was actively engaged in the study of his krai in different directions, especially in the area of flora and fauna. Archival materials published allow us to specify this little-known page of its activities for the first time. At the same time, we point out the important fact that N. N. Popov’s name was known among famous specialists in the field of etymology not only in Russia. This is evidenced by the agreement on fund allocation for his trip to survey the surroundings of Nerchinsk by the Academy of Sciences. His record of service also clarifies his biographical information, as well as evidence of professional activity.
