Annotation	The article is devoted to the professional biography of Svetlana Vasilyeva, Doctor of History, Professor of the Department of World and Russian History of Buryat State University. The work reveals the main stages of the research, organizational, and social activities of this person. The object of scientific research of S. V. Vasilyeva is public confessional policy related to the representatives of the old Orthodox Church in the territory of Baikal region in the 17th – beginning of the 21st centuries. The result of her scientific activity was the formation of a coherent picture of interaction between the authorities and old believers of the region, determination of general and special characteristics. Scientific vision of religious processes became the basic factor in the public activities of S. V. Vasilyeva, who is a member of the Council for cooperation with religious organizations of the presidential Administration (the Head) of the Republic of Buryatia and Government of the Republic of Buryatia. An important direction in S. V. Vasilyeva’s scientific and social activities was the project to perpetuate the memory of victims of political repression, including the publication of “Book of Memory of Victims of Political Repression”, conferences, seminars, thematic actions, which manifest S. V. Vasilyeva’s organizational skills.
