Annotation The article analyzes the combination points of the humanistic tendencies in Erich Fromm’s views and the ideas of Eastern Orthodoxy. In his works the psychoanalyst mentions the religious approach and refers mostly to Protestantism (as translation of the teachings of Martin Luther and John Calvin) and more rarely to Catholicism. However, both streams differ from traditionally Russian Eastern Orthodoxy in whose original ideas we can find more similar points with humanistic psychoanalysis. The first point is the difference between the individualistic perception of the world which is common to western protestant mentality, and the collectivism spirit which is common to the East and Russia in particular. Fromm wrote about the overcoming of the negative moments (estrangement) of the first model through the second one. The second point refers to the common humanistic tendencies based on the perception of human as a distinct whole personality whose values should be self-development, love, creative self-realization, freedom and responsibility. In addition, there is a focus on the true being, not on the possession, including the matters of faith, which should not be perceived as a map with ready answers and solutions, but as the human way to oneself and true moral Ideal.
