Annotation | The purpose of the study is the identification of the relicts of middle Bulgharian epoch in the
historical lexicon of the Chuvash language.
The used method is based on the identification of doublets – words that have the same or
nearly the same meaning, but different in terms of historical derivation.
These differences are identified on the basis of information about the historical development
of the Turkic languages with respect to the ancient Turkic, lexicalized in the runic monuments of
the VIII–IX centuries, which are parallel to the ancient Bulghar.
The archaic verbal nouns in the Chuvash languages, ending with affixes –ăx/-ĕх that are
relicts of the middle Bulgharian epoch are described in the article
Their archaism is proved by their paucity and the presence of their parallels – more modern
verbal nouns, ending with affixies –ă/-ĕ with the same meaning, as well as by the fact that one of
these archaic words – pulăx “harvest” (from the verb pul- – “to be” , “to become”, “to (become)
ripe”) was borrowed from the middle Bulgharian language into Persian where nowadays it is an
obsolete word – Persian bolġε “one’s living”, “vital bread”. This word – bolġε comes from the
middle Bulgharian *bolăgă, *bolgă |
