Annotation The article analyzes the texts of conversations in the socio-political and spiritual-educational magazine Tafakkur (‘Thinking’). 50 texts for the period from 2001 to 2017 have been studied. Problem-thematic analysis allowed us to reveal a wide subject range of conversations ‒ from the ancient Turkic history and culture to the modern literature and art of the Turkic-speaking peoples. The circle of issues under discussion included: the facets of contact between the East and the West, the art of America, Russia and the CIS, the mysteries and mysteries of Turkestan, Islamic motifs in literature and art, attitude to women in the modern world, the role of the intelligentsia in society. Many conversations recreate the lives of great people who influenced the development of literature, culture and science of Uzbekistan. The world is explored here from a philosophical and spiritual position, viewed by the eyes of a representative of the Uzbek intellectual elite. The method of lexical-semantic analysis was also used, which allows us to identify the author’s assessment in the text, as well as the method of linguistic and stylistic analysis to identify the functional and stylistic identity of the text. An analysis of the array of texts showed that the journal refers to the “dialogical” and reproduces a mostly symmetrical type of communication uniting equal partners. At the same time, this does not preclude the use of provocation technology, which acts as an intrigue that actualizes the mental resources of the interlocutor. The interlocutors demonstrate developed logical thinking, research skills, competence, healthy skepticism, the ability not only to fix the obvious but also to determine the connections between phenomena, they are independent in their judgments. The journalist often acts as an equal partner presenting his extended position on the subject under discussion, he manifests himself as an erudite, a person with a broad scientific outlook who can, moreover, present systemic ideas in a simple, understandable form. Analysis of the texts allowed us to reveal the conceptual features of the conversation genre in journal texts, their originality and difference from other dialogical genres.
