Annotation The article is devoted to the questions of stone influence on culture. The connection between man and stone over long period of the human society formation is traced in this paper. A stone is an important technological material of antiquity as it is illustrated by the archaeological cultures which are entirely based on mineral raw materials. A dominant influence of raw on culture is justified with the examples of the archaeological sites in Western Transbaikalia. Another important conclusion is that stone is an element of esoteric knowledge of the Ancient East. Ancient civilizations traditionally gave the stones, especially semi-precious and precious ones, the leading role in the ceremonies, and besides they used them as medicines. This phenomenon was peculiar to both countries: the Ancient East and the modern European civilization. On the example of the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and Front Asia there is a description of usage of semi-precious and precious stones in occult practice and everyday life. The importance and role of stone in forming and development European civilization also discusses. A characterization of the mineral raw materials use as a building material and luxury goods is given. In conclusions the several positions are given. Firstly, considering the archaeological data of the Stone Age, it is concluded that man had a high level of handling for the production of stone tools. Secondly, the most actively used in esoteric varieties are: beryl (emerald, aquamarine, heliodor), corundum (ruby and sapphire), and quartz (rock crystal, amethyst, smoky quartz, chalcedony, jasper), as well as garnet, lapis lazuli and turquoise.
