Annotation The article presents the main provisions of the conceptual work aimed at theoretical substantiation of the strategy of psychological adaptation of the population in the ecologically unfriendly region. The relevance of the theme is determined by the importance of psychological adaptation of the person to not quite adequate conditions of living environment. The paper emphasizes the methodological necessity of the system study of complete psychological adaptation of the person to long-term influence on human psyche of both natural and social ecologically unfriendly living environment. The main variant of the strategy of psychological adaptation of the person born and permanently living in ecologically unfriendly living environment is called minimizing adaptation. It is a special strategy of man’s adaptation to the conditions of long-term ecological trouble. The psyche of the people born and per-manently living in ecologically unfavourable territories is closer to the lower limit of the population’s adaptable norm than of those who live in ecologically safe territories. Energy expending adaptation strategy gives way to energy-efficient one. It is the real basis of the general decline in mental activity (detectable in the parameters of the psychological status) in ecologically unfriendly areas.
