Annotation The article highlights the process of agricultural colonization in the western Baikal Region taking as an example resettlements of peasants and agricultural development around the Idinsky fort, near which there were two settlements. Idinsky fort was made at the request of the Buryats, in order to protect against the Mongolian troops. The resettlement of the peasants was organized according to the state program in the immediate vicinity of the nomadic Buryats. The area around the Idinsky fort was suitable for farming. Agricultural development of the Baikal area had its own characteristics, which are based mainly on nomadic agriculture of aborigines. Under the influence of Russian settlers there appeared some Idinsky Buryats’ farms. The article considers the imposition of the tax for farmers, the structure of their management. Agriculture developed mostly to create a food base.
