Annotation	The article is devoted to the analysis of the role Siberia played in the social and economic development of the Russian state in the 19th – early 20th cc. The authors follow the history of the administrative development of Siberia; emphasize the contribution of M. M. Speransky and N. N. Muraviov-Amursky. The demographic situation in Siberia has been assessed, the number of the Russian and local population has been determined, one demographic peculiarity has been pointed out – rural population prevails the urban one. The analysis of the region economy proves that major industries development was one-sided. The region served mostly as a supplier of the raw materials for the European center. Siberia delivered fur, silver and gold, corn and vegetable oil to the center. The amount of deliveries increased thanks to Trans-Siberian Railway which connected Siberia and the Russian center. The authors come to the conclusion that Siberia had quite developed agriculture and transport, but rather weak industry.
