Annotation | The controversy surrounding Dostoyevsky’s creativity regards the main issue: whether to consider the religious content of this writer’s novels as a manifestation of gnoseocentrism, aesthetism, or to consider Dostoevsky a religious writer who responds to the requests of the human spirit. The writer thought of his artistic creativity to be not simply human but divine-human. The paper emphasizes the theological discourse of the novel Crime and Punishment, which is structured in the sign of the Christian resurrection. Dostoevsky reveals the spiritual movement of the individual from sin to righteousness through the cultural symbols of the biblical text. The novel represents the spiritual meanings of the ideational canon of Russian culture. Through the artistic contemplation of God and theology Dostoevsky restored in the minds of his contemporaries the ideational concept of Christ-centered Russian culture, which was given by the Byzantine Christian tradition, but was lost in the subsequent cultural transformations. |
