Annotation The article is devoted to Orthodox icons of Buryatia in the 19th – early 20th centuries. For the first time it describes the icons from Orthodox churches and museums in Ulan- Ude. The purpose of this paper is to identify iconographic, stylistic and compositional features of folk icons. It presents a classification of icons: peasant house icons, icons painted by masters of decorative arts and crafts; icons created without taking into account canonical traditions. Particular attention is paid to the icons created under the influence of local culture, in which there are traces of borrowings from traditional Buryat decorative art and Buddhist painting. The study proves that the “folk” icon of Buryatia in the late 19th – early 20th centuries corresponds to all-Russian trends and is characterized by regional features.
