Annotation The article discusses the mechanism of occurrence of the Orthodox religious identification in the national pagan outskirts of the Russian state on the example of Yakutia. We note the slow pace of economic development of the region and the Christianization associated with the objective (harsh climate, significance of territory, lack of communications) and subjective (mentality of the local population, paganism) reasons. It is emphasized that, despite the commitment to paganism, the transition of the peoples of Yakutia in Orthodoxy was less complex than the representatives of other monotheistic religions. The conclusion is about the special role of Orthodoxy as a state religion in the integration of the Yakut outskirts in the Russian state in connection with the small size and territorial dispersion of the bureaucracy and peasantry. It is obvious that the missionary, the organization of parish life, education of the Yakut of the clergy became important elements of religious identification of the population of Yakutia and contributed to the fact that by the end of the 19th century, the vast majority of residents of the area related themselves with Orthodoxy, and consequently religious (Orthodox) identity of the peoples of Yakutia is a unique element of integration into the Russian civilization, when ethnic pagan customs were replaced, transmitted from generation to generation, traditions of Orthodoxy, organically embedded in the mentality of the peoples.
Key words religious (Orthodox) identity, Yakutia, Yakutsk suburb, integration, missionary
