Annotation The article analyzes the processes of creating science and technology as well as political and social terminology in Amharic. We also examine word formation models used to add new terms to Amharic technical and political vocabulary. Particular attention is paid to the term creation mechanisms and term-building principles. It was just the beginning of the development of sciences in Ethiopia and the lack of proper conceptual apparatus of such sciences as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, and so on became obvious to the government. That is why the subjective factor played an important part in the term formation processes in Amharic. The article aims to trace the use of the newly created terminology and analyze why some of the terms continue to be used and the others do not. We conclude that the efforts should be done to enhance the processes of standardization and unification of terminology in Amharic, the working language of the Ethiopian government. To implement these tasks, the role of the state as the initiator and coordinator is considered to be very significant.
