Annotation | The article gives a brief history of the monastery complex Zuunkhuree and shows the current state of its successor – the monastery Dashchoylin (Ulan Bator), which makes it possible to judge about the present state of Buddhism in Mongolia. The work is written based on a wide range of Mongolian published and unpublished materials. As a source for this article, the Charter of the monastery Dashchoylin and Duty regulations of lamas have been used. Based on interviews with lamas and other sources of information, innovative processes in daily monastic and lamas’ activities, in the administrative and cult organization of the monastery, relationship with the government and society are revealed. New tendencies in the development of Buddhism in Mongolia, its adaptation to modern social life are noted. History of restoration of the cult system in the internal structure of the monastery, the Buddhist monastic system of education, organization of educational process in college Zuunhuree are looked upon. It is noted that most of Buddhist monks combine Buddhist education with a secular one; many lamas receive additional secular specialties that is the new phenomenon for Buddhist tradition of Mongolia. However, the changes have not greatly affected the ritual part of the monastic life. Currently there is an active process of restoration of the former lost traditions. The lamas of the monastery together with historians are searching for archival documents and conducting researches on history of the monastery complex. Since opening up to the present time works on reconstruction of a monastic complex, improvement of the territory have not stopped. Modern Buddhist clergy of Mongolia should be considered as an integral component of society, which is also enduring innovations and transformations. |
