Annotation The article analyzes the increase of Russian Orthodox monasteries in the 18th − beginning of the 20th centuries with emphasis on the territory of Siberia, focusing on the Transbaikal region. The basis is the civilization method that allows researchers to distinguish regional differences in the imperial policy of the Russian state. Features typical for the entire state and features inherent for significant geopolitical regions such as Siberia and Transbaikal region are highlighted. Quantitative indicators and the percentage of Orthodox monasteries in the region and the Russian and Siberian indicators are allocated. The analysis is based on the selection of male and female monasteries, separate monk houses. The lack of quantitative data of episcopal houses and monasteries is explained. The study is based on archival documents and available scientific publications. The future prospects in the study of class rating of Orthodox monasteries in the region are determined.
