Annotation In the State Archive of the Trans-Baikal region there have been found the documents to testify archaeological studies organized by Gerard Miller on the Shilka River as early as 1735. The excavation of 15 wooden ancient burials and their examination was carried out by one of the expedition members, a student, Alexey Gorlanov by name, who did the work following G. F. Miller’s instructions. Further on G. F. Miller presented the results of the excavation in his articles issued in the book “The History of Siberia”, where he referred the burials to Genghis Khan Age. Among the archive documents of Nerchinsk voivodeship there are G. Miller’s letters to G. F. Derevnin, a voivode (a governor) of Nerchinsk, who used his administrative power to help the expedition. These documents enable us to give a more profound estimation of G. F. Miller’s contribution to the Ancient History studies of the Trans-Baikal region.
