Annotation In the article unique archival documents in old Mongolian script and Russian language about activities of the Buddhist church of Eastern Siberia, stored in the Center of Oriental manuscripts and xylographs (COMX) of the Institute of Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science are observed for the first time thus getting available to a wide circle of scholars. These documents in accordance to their contents are divided into 2 conditional groups: materials on functioning of the Buddhist church and the materials characterizing participation of Buddhist church in the political life of the Russian state. The author on basis of the documents from the office of the pandita khambolamas shows the mechanism of control by imperial administration over the Buryat clergy, formation of the staff of lamas, obtaining certificates, permissions for trips, etc. Bureaucratic character of relations of the Buddhist church with the imperial administration has been vividly illustrated. Also the role of Buddhist clergy in the life of the Buryat population is shown
