Annotation The article is about the applied methodology, the method of the historian as a system in the structure of the history of historical science (historiography). The subject field of historiography, the history of historical science, includes the study of its own theoretical and methodological “constructions”: a theory and a method. However, there is no systematic history of applied methodology, special sections (paragraphs) revealing the method in the textbooks on domestic historiography crowning the process of historiographical research. The historiographical situation in the field of applied methodology worsened in the post-Marxist period in particular. This is due, in particular, to the lack of a direct statement of this problem in the history of historical science (historiography). Historians of historical science, philosophers M. A. Kukartseva, N. I. Smolensky, A. A. Chernobaev, A. B. Sokolov, as well as their predecessors N. L. Rubinstein, A. L. Shapiro and others agree that there is no single version of the methodology. However, this recognition is not enough. A systematic study of the methodological arsenal of historians, from V. N. Tatishchev to V. O. Klyuchevsky and others, is required based on a unified approach, considered within the framework of the history of historical science, a description of how the author’s method, school and direction originated, developed, contributed to the discovery of new facets of “history” and finally exhausted itself. We need special studies in correlation between the philosophical ideas of the classics of philosophy and methodology of the particular historian, influence of the value orientation of the historian on the form and content of the object of historical study, the selection of a set of core concepts used for the topic. The study of these elements of the internal form of history of historical science is urgent, for it translates the analysis of the evolution of the method from the empirical (content review) to the theoretical level ‒ the study of the structure, evolution, “mechanism” of applied methodology and opens the way to formalizing historical knowledge.
Key words history of historical science (historiography), internal form of historical science, philosophy, methodology, applied methodology, direction, school
