Annotation The article considers the urban sketching phenomenon as a modern transforming art practice that exists in individual and collective forms. In its collective form, urban sketching tends to performativity, which involves getting a performing status by non-performing art forms. Interest in the images of urban environment dates back to the Impressionists (the second half of the 19th century – early 20th century) whose canvases depicted the daily life of citizens, originality of their appearance, lifestyle and entertainments. The determining factors of current heyday of urban sketching are the processes of urbanization, informatization, rationalization of modern society, as well as the development of digital photography, communication technologies and social networks. Quick sketches of city life in a community of like-minded people, often under the guidance of an experienced artist, are aimed at fixing meanings, images and conflicts of socio-cultural urban space, expansion of its democracy, multi-functionality and freedom. Synthesis of fine arts with other cultural phenomena (education, sport, tourism and etc.) contributes to the enrichment of cultural and leisure activities, the development of cultural industries and experience economy. Internet communities of urban sketching targeting a mass audience, perform a dynamic production of aesthetic artifacts and serve as a source of multicultural information.
