Annotation This article gives an analysis of literature manuals reflecting a competence-based learning paradigm. Kyrgyzstan is only now switching over to a system of double-level education. Higher educational institutions use syllabuses as manuals. The system of double-level education requires own academic literature to be developed. At present, the national educational institutions are using Russian textbooks and manuals in literature. As a practice of teaching literature in higher educational institutions has shown, not all these textbooks are in compliance with the country’s state educational standard. A set of competencies itself has been copied from the European standards. They have not been adapted to the country’s needs and requirements. Kyrgyzstan has to apply practices of the developed countries as well as that experience accumulated by the domestic higher educational institutions over the past years. The country is adjusting to new requirements. The reforms in the educational sphere include an educational standard of not only higher educational institutions but also the standards of secondary schools.
