Annotation	The article reveals the process of formation of the national autonomy idea of the Buryat people, the ways and means to achieve the goal of the national selfdetermination. A lot of attention in the work is given to the interaction between different levels of the state power in the process of realizing the national-state autonomy of the Buryat people. The main idea of the article is to indicate the Buryat autonomy as a consolidating factor in the process of the ethnic development. The article analyzes various approaches to the evaluation of the effects of the Buryat- Mongolian autonomous soviet socialist republic development as a result of different phases of the society development and that of the historical science. As a result of the material generalization the authors came to the conclusion that autonomization at a certain historical stage might be a progressive idea.
