Annotation	Basing on the archive documents the author examines the role and the place of female high schools in the people’s education system in the Trans-Baikal region. The historical review is introduced, brief description of the high school education in Russia is given, and basic types of the institutions of learning are defined by the author in this article. The information about Trans-Baikal female high schools, facilities, conditions of foundation and activity is summarized in the article. The analysis of students’ social position is given. The data about teaching stuff and their professional quality level are presented. Entrance conditions, learning environment, and organization of study and pedagogical work are considered, the data about learning programs and education quality are exposed. The public and government opinion towards reorganization of female high school education is defined.
