Annotation The article describes the Transbaikal authorities’ anti-religious activities in the second half of the 20s - first half of the 30s. in the 20th c. The description is based on the analysis of the Russian Federation State Archive documents. The analysis is performed in the context of the general characteristics of the Soviet policy in regard to different religious beliefs. At the given time there was a range of transformations in the administrative system of the region. The author describes the territorial units in which the authorities’ anti-religious activities are considered. The emphasis is made on the government’s actions against Christianity and Lamaism. This is done due to a small number of followers of other religious communities in the region, as well as with a small amount of materials, characterizing them in archival sources. Based on the analysis of specific measures some common trends for the TransBaikal are distinguished. Directions of the authorities’ anti-religious activities are determined. Based on analysis of available material, the author concludes that the reserves of one of the central archives - National Archives of the Russian Federation contain a significant amount of cases in the history of Orthodoxy in the Transbaikal in the XX century, including cases of anti-religious policy of the authorities. Government policy in regard to different religious faiths in the region, was constructed in the context of an overall policy and had a distinctly anti-religious character. The author notes that the local Transbaikal authorities were set to close churches, monasteries, churches, datsans and prayer houses.
